MAC SMOLDER AND MAYBELLINE COLOSSAL..... A COMPARISON

Everyone must have already read about the Maybelline Colossal Kajal from other blogs (I assume), as it was released some time ago and I really love the pencil and even got a back up.So, in this post I want to do a comparison between two of my favourite eyeliners Mac smolder and Maybelline Colossal Kajal.

I have been using Mac smolder for the last 3 years and I think I have repurchased it several times already! SO, when I first heard about the Maybelline Kajal I was thrilled, thinking, just maybe I have found a dupe! Don't you just love the funky yellow packaging of maybelline Colossal.......

The Maybelline Colossal is a twist up pencil liner while the Mac is something you have to sharpen time & time again. The Mac smolder is really creamy and has the tendency for the tip to get rounded really fast and coz of this, one has to sharpen the tip frequently there by leading to wastage! But, no such prob with Maybelline!

My bare eyes before trying on either of the pencils.

My eyes with the liners on. I have swiped only once with both the pencils and you can see the difference without me pointing it out! Maybelline pencil does give solid color on the waterline but you will have to keep on lining for 3 to 4 times(as I said I have lined it here only once, so if you need the solid black line do it a couple more times). Mac gives a solid color with just one swipe and I love the dark black color it gives. The Maybelline is water resistant and can be used safely on the waterline and is difficult to smudge so lasts for a long time! The Mac pencil is a smudger and true to the name smudges easily helping to create the smokey eye and if you are not careful.......the raccoon eyes! and its not waterproof. As far as the price goes Maybelline definitely beats Mac as its decently priced at just 150 Rs.

Line created with Maybeline.

Line with Mac smolder.

Final Verdict:- I love both the pencils as I use them for different reasons now. But initially I thought maybe I had found a dupe which was just not meant to be. Smolder still retains the cult status in my makeup tote when I want to create really bold smudgy eyes and Maybelline is the one I use when I want my kajal to stay for a long long time.

Have you used both pencils and which one is your fav. Any other eye pencils that are worth a try.....then do let me know :)

CHAMBOR BLACK EYELINER

I bought this quite sometime back, but this liner took a back seat once I found my body shop liquidliner. But this liner surely deserves a review and here it is......

 Pros:-
Love the sleek packaging
The brush is really thin, so its easy to draw lines really close to upper lash line
Great for those who don't like thick lines on the upper lash line
Its a 5ml bottle and will last for quite sometime as very little is needed at a time
Dries up real fast
The color is brown black, but leans more towards the black side
Has never irritated my eyes
Available at all chambor counters

Cons:-
One cannot draw winged eye and cat eye that easily with this liner(atleast I find it difficult)
Its not waterproof

I don't remember the exact price for this one as I bought it a long time back

Will I repurchase? No, I don't think so. Not 'coz its a bad product, its just that I love my body shop liners way too much and I always wing out my eyeliner or go for crazy cat eye, which is not easily achievable with this.

Lining your eyes.....

Hi everyone!!!!!! Today i wanted to share with you all some basics about lining your eyes and especially "where" all you can play with your liner on your eyes. A pic is worth a thousand words. i know they are not that clear but it will surely serve the purpose (its raining in mumbai and no natural light and plus everytime i took a pic it came blurred....lemme add this also...i had typed this post long time back but forgot to post it...so lemme add its not raining now in mumbai but sorry for the blurred pics!). So these are the least blurred pictures LOL.

This is where you can go crazy with all different sorts of eyeliners like liquid, pencils and gel liners. The beginners can start by using a pencil and then move on to liquid and gel when they have gained some precision.

Again....u can wear all sorts of liners here and go wild. You can even put your favourite eyeshadow as a thin line using brush or Q-tips

This is where you can put your pencils, kajals, kohl's and even gel liners. But try not to put liquid liner as it won't set properly and can mess up the whole look and hurt your eyes.

Ok....I know that picture sure looks scary as hell and once you gain enough practice....no probs at all. When you do "tightlining" it will give fullness to your lashes and make them stand out a bit more and will give the upper lash line more defined and dramatic look. You can use pencils, kajals and kohls. but i wouldn't reccomend using liquid or gel liners

Products that are worth a buy?

Liquid liner:-revlon(it has a pen type tip). It will give beginners some precision and one can achieve thin lines close to the lash line and can build it up from there. L'oreal also has one called "super liner" (i think)....that also gives a very fine line. suitable for those who doesn't like bold eyes.

Maybelline is also good .Try their ultra liner. It has a brush tip and one can create both subtle and bold looks with it. I am now loving the body shop liners which has felt tip. So its great for beginners

You can definitely try other brands too. But i prefer the above brands. that's all.

Pencil liner:- You can try maybelline, revlon, lakme, mac etc etc. But if you like the smokey effect then try mac "smoulder" on the waterline and then smudge it to the lower lash line with a brush or q tip.It is good for creating both dramatic and subtle smokey eyes.

Gel liner:- Mac fluidline is awesome. I use maybelline eyestudio gel liner(the review is already up). It is way less expensive and gives you the same result. So if you would like to purchase a gel liner that isn't too steep on your pocket pick maybelline. L'oreal hip is also good...but mine tends to dry up too fast on me. can't make it work :(

Anyway I hope this post would somewat answer a beginner's woes as far as basic eyemakeup goes.

If you try it lemme know. Remember patience is key .....

Till next post...ciao
