So many new Indian online sites are coming up so fast that online shopping has become so much fun! Today I want to share with you all a new site that has come up called Craftsvilla.
Craftsvilla.com is a marketplace to "Discover Unique Indian Products" including Handmade, Vintage, Ethnic, Organic and Natural products from India.
India is a beautiful assortment of diversity reflected in our Clothing, Food, Lifestyle, Language, Music, Books etc. This diversity is so rich and diverse that an attempt to capture it on a single platform was never made. Craftsvilla.com is that sincere attempt by bunch of young insane guys and gals who think this is possible now with the Internet.
Craftsvilla -is basically an online store that caters to unique Indian handmade and handcrafted products. The initiative was started in early 2011 by Manoj and his wife Monica Gupta who in the past has also been involved with NGO's such as Kala raksha, Sahaj, etc
It is a venture that is trying to preserve arts and crafts in India. Most of our artisans are being paid poorly because they are forced to sell it to third parties because they themselves don't have the skills or the investments to set shop and sell. These agents in turn sell these items at inflated rates in the market.
Due to low pay, many of these artisans are leaving their professions in search of jobs with better pay put many of these ancient crafts at risk of slowing dying out. In time, we may lose many of these treasured crafts and Craftsvilla is a venture that is striving to not let this happen and help in reviving the arts by connecting sellers directly to global audiences.
Craftsvilla.com is funded by US based Investors: Nexus Venture Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Craftsvilla.com has also been hailed in the various media including Times of India, Hindu, Economic Times, WSJ etc as the "Hottest Young Company in Handicrafts in India" which is bringing positive change in the livelihood of base level artisans and designers.
They stock jewellery, sarees, bags,Home decor, clothing, Accessories, Home furnishing, bath & beauty, Food & health etc. I checked out their website and it does have some amazing stuff. I haven't made a purchase yet but am planning to snag a few things from their site.
