HIP HOP ABS REVIEW

I have been using this dance based workout for more than a month and I can give a pretty detailed review about the program now that I have lost 5 kgs and around 17 inches from all over my body.

What it is:- Its a dance based workout featuring mainly Hip-Hop dance moves and concentrating mainly on the ab muscles.

Instructor:- Shaun T. He is really an amazing instructor, very energetic and lively. He makes the workout really fun and I always felt at ease whenever I worked out with his dvds. He talks nonstop and you can modify the moves if you want and still get a fab workout. Some people say that he behaves totally gay in these videos but I beg to differ. He just tries to be enthusiastic and super fun and that is exactly what a "dance" based workout needs. Nobody likes to workout with a stuck up instructor!!!

Workout in detail:- It  comes with a workout plan that is very easy to follow and the workouts are for 6 days straight with the 7th day being the "break-day". All workouts are around 25-45 mins long and at first you start with the most easiest routine and Shaun T builds your stamina level as you move forward every week and I was able to do the 45 min workout without any trouble.

Is it an easy workout:- Its a fun but effective workout and people who love to dance will love this workout. Even people who can't dance that well will also benefit from this as the moves are not complex at all. The level of the workout being easy will depend upon how you are able to adapt to the workout routine. Once you get the moves down its a fun workout and the pounds just keep coming off!

How much did I lose:- I lost 5 kgs and 17 inches in 28 days. My body feels a lot more toned and my abdomen doesn't bulge out when I sit down and my most problematic area are my arms and I lost 2 inches each from my arms!

Difference in this workout dvd from others:- They promote the idea of getting amazing abs "Standing Up"!!! There are no boring crunches  and every single crunch that you do, you are doing it standing up!!!! and it works really well! It does have some moves lying down but they are not bothersome like ab crunches.

Recommend:- YES!!! I love Shaun T and his method of workout and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves working out to fitness dvds , people who has no means to do any outdoor activities and also for those who love to dance and have a good time. It will surely give you results. Don't be fooled by the name. The workout will definitely melt fat in all the places and not just the abs!

Cons:- Availabiity might be a problem in India. I bought the dvd via ebay. You can also try to downoad it via torrent( I guess......). This may not be a great workout for people who hate dance based workouts.

MY WEIGH IN

Sorry for being MIA for so long. I have not given up my fitness goals and still going strong. I had to break the routine in between for more than two weeks after my last weigh in as I suddenly developed a tooth ache and had to get it surgically removed. Anyone who has had a wisdom tooth extraction would definitely know as to how bad it is. I had to take rest for more than 2 weeks as I had a huge swelling and couldn't eat anything except ice cream for 4 days straight!!! When I weighed myself after 2 weeks, I had gained back all the weight that I had lost. I went on to become 85 kgs. Honestly I would have stopped my fitness regime then and there if I had not made a promise to myself and started writing these posts. After I started these posts, I received numerous comments and mails encouraging me to succeed in my weight loss journey and I decided NOT to give up just because life throws a curve ball once in a while. So, I had to start again from scratch and its been 28 days since I started my excercise routine and here are the results.

Starting weight:- 85 Kgs( I sadly packed on the pounds after the tooth extraction and had to start working again!)

Now:- 80.1 Kgs (after 28 days)

So, totally I lost 5+3=8 kgs (if you take into account the 3 kg weight loss that I achieved when I started my weight loss regime)

I am happy even if the first 3 kg weight loss cannot be counted. I worked my butt off to lose 5 kgs again and I am so happy that I will be entering the "70's"  soon :)

Now, lets get on to the inch loss

Rt arm:-1.8 inches
Lt arm:- 2.1 inches
Chest :- 3 inches
Wasit :- 4 inches
Hip:- 3 inches
Lt & Rt Thighs:- 3 inches each

So I lost a total of 16.9 inches. Not bad rt?

Honestly, my body feels a lot better My abdomen feels a lot toned and its not coming out when I sit down and the place that I wanted my fat to melt was my arms and I am sooooooooo happy to see the flab melting away from my arms!!!

I have been following the basic meal plans and nothing fancy. I have been doing Hip Hop Abs and also mixing it up a bit with Rockin body(another dance based workout from Shaun T.) But, from now on I am going to try a new workout called Turbo Jam as my body has become a bit used to the other two workouts and I would like to shake it up a bit to confuse my body and also burn more calories!!!

I will be writing a detailed post about Hip Hop Abs in a couple of days and as usual the comments section is open for this post. If any of you are working out to lose the flab then do give me pointers and if any of you are using Turbo Jam do leave me a comment to let me know as to how good/bad the workout is :)

WEEKLY WEIGH IN

So here is my update for Week-1.

Starting weight:-85.5 kgs
Present weight:-82.4 kgs
Total Lost:- 3 kgs
Aim:-to lose 5 kgs this month
Goal weight:-55-58 kgs

I am happy to have lost 3 kgs in the first week itself, but I am not too excited as its normal for everyone to lose  this much at the beginning of their weight loss journey. Its mainly water weight that one loses when we jump start weight loss.

Being a south indian rice is my favourite food and I am not a huge fan of chappathis. My weight comes from solid food items and not sweets as I am not a sweets fan.  But  now I have found a great substitute for rice and that is daliya/gothambu kanji/broken wheat. If you are like me who is a huge rice fan then daliya is the answer for you. You can make porridge, pulao, upma anything out of daliya or even use it as a plain rice substitute along with your normal rice veggies.

I have included lots of veggies into my diet and whenever I am taking meat I have made it to be a priority for it to be lean meat. Mostly I take them for dinner along with salads.

I am still doing hip-hop abs and having fun with it. I do owe a huge thanks to the workout program in jump starting my weight loss.

I will also be updating my inch loss by the end of 4  weeks as I think one has to give sufficient time for proper inch loss to occur.

As usual my comments section is open and you can give suggestions, ideas and tips to keep me going and all you ladies who commented and mailed me with good advice & support, You guys ROCK! Thanks so much and keep the inspiration coming!

MY JOURNEY TOWARDS A HEALTHY WEIGHT

I purposefully did not use the term "weight-loss" as I have been trying diets and fad diets for the longest time possible. I started gaining weight when I hit puberty. After that I have always been plump and never was my "original weight".

I currently weigh more than 80 kgs( I haven't yet weighed myself and I am planning to invest in a digital weighing scale soon enough). I am 5ft3 and my ideal weight should be around 55-58 kgs. I am not even in the "chubby" category now and I am obese.

I have always tried to lose weight and I would lose weight to a certain extent and then stop my dieting which I think a lot of people would have gone through for sure. I always shy away or lose motivation before I reach my "Goal" weight. The lightest I was in the recent times was just before my  wedding in 2010 and I weighed 67kgs at that time and even then I was 12 kgs overweight.

I have never gone beyond 75kgs and this past year I was bedridden with a back pain and doctors advised me to take complete rest and not do any strenuous physical activity and that included exercising. I went from 72 to more than 80 kgs.( I will update my original weight once I buy the weighing scale).

Now I have started my exercise regime and proper eating a week back as I think that I am physically at the lowest point of my life. I don't feel energetic anymore, I feel sad that I look this way and I want to get into my old clothes and preferably some new leaner clothes in the coming months and above all I want to be "Healthy". I plan to become pregnant next year and I do not want to put on more weight to this frame and me being a doctor I know the problems that I will have to face during such a pregnancy.

Why am I writing this post?

I always lose motivation and this time around I don't want that for me. I am planning to update my weekly weigh ins with you all and also discuss problems with my fellow readers who might have successfully lost weight or are in the same band wagon as me and trying to lose their weight. I would love comments, suggestions, tips and motivation from you all now that I have started this journey of mine. I am making this public so that I will feel committed enough to stick to my goal. At present my goal is to lose 5 kgs  this month.

My eating routine:-

I have avoided junk food, cut down on tea and coffee
I am preparing all meals by myself and am exercising portion control and I am not into too mcuh calorie counting(but am making sure not to go beyond 1300 cals per day)
I am drinking lots of water and having veggies

Exercise:-

I wanted to do something fun to keep my motivation up so I am doing Hip-Hop Abs by Shaun T. He is the one who has made the insanity video. My health does not permit me to jump into Insanity work-outs as it might stir up my back problem again. Hip-Hop abs is a great dance type work out video and Shaun T is really energetic and fun!

I also plan to walk in the evenings when the rains take a break in mumbai.

So, this is my first of many more weight loss journals to come and I request everyone to support me by giving in your ideas, suggestions, tips & advice in the comment box below. I am keeping comments open for posts like these from now on as we all need motivation, guidance and support when we take up such a huge step towards changing a whole lifestyle. I hope you guys will support me :)

PS:- Somehow my comments section is not showing up below the posts page as the small "comments icon". I think it has something to do with me blocking comments for so long. Well blogger is weird at times :D But you can leave a comment when you take only this particular post in a new page and you can see the "POST A COMMENT" section. Please feel free to leave a comment, your comments mean a lot of inspiration for me to stick to this lifestyle change that I have made. Thanks :)

Inspiration.........

This is not my video....but rather a video from a famous You Tube Guru "Misschievous makeup". She put this video up and I am really touched! I am 15 kgs overweight and I can relate with her. I have always been yo-yo ing with my weight and suddenly I gained like 10-12 kgs after my marriage. My face looks presentable (and thats a miracle......with all the weight that I have put on). I just wanted to pass this video on to others as an inspirational story, so that the feeling arises in your mind that "YOU CAN DO IT!!!!". I have already started my regimen like 2 weeks back. I am a non vegetarian, so, now I have become a vegetarian and I can feel the difference just after 2 weeks......I plan to keep up with the good diet and exercise and I hope to post my "success video" sometime in future :)
